You don't have to look far to realise that Ho Chi Minh City is a place of contradictions - the locals, or in fact anyone who has been there longer than ten minutes, shun its name for the older, more evocative Saigon.

Of the seven million inhabitants, around half take to the streets on two wheels which makes for an interesting, if slightly hair-raising ride around a city where towering sleek skyscrapers jostle for position with elegant colonial mansions. Sharp-suited Vietnamese businessmen shuffle through street markets where traditional wares have hardly changed in a hundred years. Throughout its teeming markets and bustling streets, elegant and ancient pagodas and cool, sophisticated bars, Saigon is a city alive.
