GHI/IGHC GOLF CHALLENGE 2008
This year’s selected course is the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club, which is conveniently located in the suburbs of Kuala Lumpur. This prestigious club was established back in the early 1990s and is beautifully landscaped by the designer, an American by the name of Max Wexler, who cleverly made use the natural topology to create the course. The course meanders through the undulating terrain surrounded by lush vegetation dotted with small lakes where you cannot fail to spot a large variety of bird life as you go around. The Bermuda fairways are generous – most of the time – and the greens are fast and very well prepared. It is worth noting that once you get to the green you should listen to your caddy, as these multi-level greens are not that easy to read… At just over 6,400 metres, the course is a test for golfers of all skill levels but the Texas scramble format should even out the teams in the long run. There is a total of four challenging par 5 holes around 500 metres long that will test the longest hitters: and with water coming into play on no fewer than eight holes, it may be worth packing a few extra balls!
